From 1668, the painter Pieter Boel from Antwerp practiced at the Royal Menagerie of Louis XIV at Versailles. He painted animals from different points of view and attitudes and works on the rendering of fur. These rabbits are extracted from a work of his hand exposed in the museum Saint-Léger.
