Heirlooms: Eastside Pride

Description

"Heirlooms: Eastside Pride" a 600 foot mural by San Antonio artist Kaldric Dow @kaldricesigndow at Nolan Street underpass between Cherry and Chestnut Streets, Dignowity Hill, San Antonio, Texas in January 2026. Photos taken March 2026.
⠀⠀⠀
'Featuring collaged imagery that captures defining elements of the era—from fashion trends that shaped Black identity and pride to historically significant street names—the composition is interlaced with vibrant designs, while natural elements provide an expressive contrast that amplifies the mural’s energy.

“This mural brings together colorful patterns and imagery inspired by the revolutionary spirit of the 60s and 70s,” said Dow. “My hope is that it fills people with a sense of empowerment and a deeper connection to the community. I wanted to create something that feels both familiar and uplifting, while still sparking a sense of wonder through the pattern work.”' https://www.sa.gov/Directory/News-Releases/New-Nolan-Street-Mural-Celebrates-Eastside-History-and-Pride

I'm retired, travel a lot, read books from everywhere we go, get confused quickly in a few different languages, and post mural photos every day to Instagram @uclamikefranks. Then I write the artists to see if I got anything wrong. It's a fun hobby and gets me out on the streets.
