Artist statement:

“Through this project, we saw it important to visually express the importance of nature and its healing effects. We are increasingly separated from our natural environment, when we are feeling disconnected, we just need to go out into nature. This relationship that we forge with our external environment also assists our inner world. The work is designed to meet the needs of the youths, stakeholders and inspire the broader community of Devonport.

We have developed a conceptual framework that will allow participants to explore the art of stenciling by contributing a piece of their own to the composition. Participants were asked to create one or more stencils over a two day workshop on the topic of freedom. T3D provided a suite of bird stencils that will be used to enhance the participant's stencils and complete the work. This allows us to create a large artwork with a loose framework upon which the participants can create, offering the individual a sense of ownership through the process of collaboration.”
