Ringo Starr Mural

Description

The mural features a huge black-and-white portrait of Ringo Starr, accompanied by colourful characters and elements inspired by The Beatles’ animated film Yellow Submarine, with rainbows and psychedelic figures that evoke the aesthetic of the 1960s.

The choice of location is no coincidence: the former Empress pub is closely linked to Ringo’s personal history. His mother, Elsie Starkey, worked there as a barmaid and Ringo grew up in the nearby streets, particularly on Admiral Grove.

Furthermore, the building appeared on the cover of his first solo album, Sentimental Journey, released in 1970. The mural pays tribute both to the musician and to his working-class roots in Liverpool.
