Pépin le Bref

He is the son of Charles Martel and the father of Charlemagne. In 751 he was proclaimed king in Soissons. By ousting the last Merovingian king, he laid the foundations of the Carolingian dynasty. Until the end of his reign, the Soissonais is a privileged place of royalty.
