The youngest son of Clovis and Clotilde, he became the only king of Francia (Frankish Empire) in 558 and kept Soissons as his capital. He founded the abbey Saint-Médard where he would be buried. A carved portrait of Clotaire I is exhibited in the local history room of the Saint-Léger museum of Soissons.
