Kursk the Unsinkable

The invisible graffiti-memorial to the tragically known Kursk submarine disaster.

The 23rd of August 2000 was declared the day of mourning in view of the sinking of Oscar-class submarine K-141 Kursk. Almost two decades ago the crew of the cruise missile submarine should have been rescued, but all the efforts were ineffectual.

After the death notice, the wave of memorial’s openings and remembering events flowed over the country, but till today there is no symbol, which could comprise power, valour and heaviness of this tragedy.

The graffitit-memorial „Kursk the Unsinkable” is a work, created with a moisture-repellent spray on the wall of city pond. In the rain on its surface appears 11-meter big water-proof lettering “Курск”, which stands for us remembering of the submarine and makes it Unsinkable.
