This enormous painting is a portrait of 11 month old Matari, an aboriginal child of the Muthi Muthi and Nukunu people. It can be found on the wall of the Blak Dot Gallery in Brunswick, and Indigenous art space. He is represented wearing a traditional kangaroo head band and ceremonial face paint.
Sadly, it seems the inevitable development in our inner suburbs has claimed this gorgeous piece, possibly my favourite Melbourne "Adnate". It looks like the small building it was on has gone, with huge hoardings around the entire site, destined to be another huge apartment block I'd say. - Andrew Haysom, 7-Nov-23
