Hazul (1981), a self-taught artist, has Porto as his birthplace and its old streets as a scene of artistic growth. His first interventions in public space appeared in 1997 under the pseudonym Pong 02, at a time when he discovered the Hip Hop movement and more specifically graffiti. Letter design was his main focus for a few years but time led him to explore other paths. From 2008 onwards, after consolidating the language and establishing an objective direction for his work, he assumed the current name of Hazul. The creations now appear with a more dreamlike and symbolic dimension, where the relationship between the organic and the geometric, between beings and objects or between the material and the ethereal is recurrently addressed. The strong lines make the drawing project itself over ordered and sometimes floating spots. Influences from primitive art, ancient civilisations or tribal peoples are noted, resulting in a universal and timeless language. His work continues to have the street as its main setting, maintaining this constant dialogue between the contemporary and ancestral worlds. In addition to walls, he also uses canvas, paper and found objects as means to express himself. His CV includes several participations in events and exhibitions.
