Sobe e Desce

Description

This two-sided mural was created by the Brazilian artist Onesto, also known as Alex Hornest, showcases his distinctive signature style. The iconic cartoon figures feature a distinctive design, marked by rounded bodies and slender arms and legs accentuated by oversized hands and pointed feet. Onesto took advantage of the wall's division, placing one character on each side.

The artwork ‘Sobe e desce’, which translates to ‘Up and down’, was inspired by the dynamic life of society. The artist conveys this by portraying one figure ascending and the other descending. This represents the social disparity between the wealthy, who mainly go up. And the less fortunate, who mainly go down. With this iconic work of art, Alex undoubtedly brought something unique to Rotterdam.
