This mural pays tribute to St Arnaud’s origins as a gold rush town in the 1850’s, when the town was known as ‘New Bendigo’. It depicts a miner panning for gold, a popular method for extracting small fragments of the precious metal from mud. This character is based on local resident Gary Perry, due to his resemblance to the early miners seen in St Arnaud’s historical records.
