With “Flower Shop,” artist Gizem Erdem(Winter) has created her largest mural to date in Mannheim. The illustrator, who usually works primarily in digital media, deliberately chose this project as an opportunity to return to working with paints and brushes. Despite challenges such as the weather and the height of the wall, she completed the piece using the “Doodle Grid” technique.
At the center of the mural is a woman in an everyday scene: she is taking a break in front of her flower shop. In doing so, Gizem addresses a personal and social theme—the importance of rest and pausing, especially for the self-employed.
In her art, Gizem Erdem deliberately portrays women as self-determined protagonists. Shaped by her childhood in Turkey and her life in Germany, she combines collective and individual perspectives. The mural reflects this approach: it conveys strength, calm, and independence, supported by a vibrant yet harmonious color palette.
