Urban Pulse: From Roots to Rhythm

Description

Music, movement and urban life come together in “Urban Pulse: From Roots to Rhythm”, a roughly 65-metre-long work of public art created in Ottensgasse. Different artistic styles, characters, lettering and urban scenes merge into one continuous composition. At the heart of the artwork is a simple idea: the city is alive and constantly pulsing, driven by music and movement. People, the city and sound seem to flow into one another. Urban landscapes and street scenes meet elements of hip-hop and street art culture. People listen to music, dance, spray paint or move through the city. Style writing – aesthetically and creatively designed lettering, often based on the graffiti artist’s pseudonym – forms a key element of the composition. Music notes, speakers and graphic sound lines interact with buildings, power lines and everyday urban structures. What makes the artwork special is the way it was created collaboratively. Each artist designed their own section of the wall, with an individual colour palette and visual style. At the same time, the different sections were deliberately connected, allowing colours, shapes and transitions to flow into one another. The result is not simply a collection of separate graffiti pieces, but one large, coherent artwork that brings together different perspectives on urban life in a shared visual language. The artwork was created as part of the two-day Block Jam Nord-Düren. The event also marked the opening of the newly created public space in Ottensgasse, which was developed following the demolition of the former buildings on the site.
