Schreiershuisje

Het SCHREIERSHUISJE is een tentoonstellingsruimte aan de Nieuwe Maas in Schiedam.

Het Schreiershuisje is een belangrijk, monumentaal gebouwtje binnen het cultureel erfgoed van Schiedam en specifiek in de wijk Zuid. In 2012 is een start gemaakt met een culturele invulling van het Schreiershuisje. De historie en identiteit van dit monumentale huisje en de combinatie van woord en beeld staan hierbij centraal. Om de drie à vier maanden wordt een kunstenaar gevraagd hier een tijdelijk kunstwerk te realiseren. In 2022 is de Stichting Schreiershuisje opgericht.

Voordat het Schreiershuisje hier stond was er al een ander huisje dat dienst deed als politiepost.

In de jaren dertig van de 20e eeuw is de oude politiepost vervangen voor dit huisje. De belangrijkste functie was toen arbeiders beschutting te bieden bij het wachten op de veerpont naar de RDM - Rotterdamse Droogdok Maatschappij aan de overkant.

The SCHREIERSHUISJE is an exhibition space on the Nieuwe Maas in Schiedam.

The Schreiershuisje is an important, historic building that forms part of Schiedam’s cultural heritage, particularly in the Zuid neighborhood. In 2012, efforts began to establish a cultural program for the Schreiershuisje. The history and identity of this historic building, along with the combination of words and images, are central to this initiative. Every three to four months, an artist is invited to create a temporary artwork here. The Schreiershuisje Foundation was established in 2022.

Before the Schreiershuisje stood here, there was already another small house that served as a police station.

In the 1930s, the old police station was replaced by this little building. Its primary function at the time was to provide shelter for workers waiting for the ferry to the RDM—Rotterdam Dry Dock Company—on the opposite side of the river.
