From @ilukuluku

"During our most recent collaboration with @moragmyerscough for @ipaf_festival_sa by @bazart_art_ we asked how we could communicate to the local community in Salt River.

Together with @moragmyerscough (UK) and @ipaf_festival_sa we continue our conversation about the 2021 theme 💯 sustainability. We worked on our recyclable message.

We did extensive research of the history dating back to 1510 when the Khoi Khoi occupied this land with Nguni cattle to barter with the Malaysians who first brought the Muslim slaves here through the Spice route to get to Europe.

Salt River is the oldest suburb in the oldest city in South Africa

Before apartheid in 1939, the local community was predominantly occupied by Muslims., then the colored community working class created fashion within the fashion district... there was also a white Christian community however to this day the morning call to prayer can be heard from all the major mosques.

THIS IS THE TEMPLE OF CURIOSITY

ALL OF US

In our effort to bring @afrikaburn art “HOME” we created this piece and painted it under extreme circumstances. Call it the south Easter and loud noises due to traffic # we got together as ALL OF US to do this. Back in the day way before the Voortrekkers travelled at this circle

This specific pattern and piece of public mural art in Salt River, Cape Town, South Africa, created during our national state of emergency and level 3 lockdown speaks to our involvement and commentary for the local community.

ALL OF US
Comment by @moragmyerscough
ALL OF US need to work together to make change for ALL OF US.
ALL OF US — in this last year it has made us ALL more sensitive and aware of how connected we ALL are and how we ALL need to work together to make changes and support each other.
The planet needs ALL OF US to care and be responsible for what we do when we are on this earth. We need ALL OF US to come together and be action positive change.

We thank @ipaf_festival_sa and @bazart_ngo for the incredible practical support and @duluxsa for donating the 100s of liters of paint to make this happen.

This particular project forms part of our legacy project for @afrikaburn 2022"
