From this moment despair ends and tactics begin

The low concrete wall features a hooded, kneeling figure planting a small sapling. The figure holds a sign bearing the symbol of Extinction Rebellion, while a small spade and the newly planted seedling can be seen nearby. Across the wall is the handwritten message: “FROM THIS MOMENT DESPAIR ENDS AND TACTICS BEGIN.”

The work appeared overnight on 25–26 April 2019, immediately after the Extinction Rebellion protests at Marble Arch. The site is located at the northeastern edge of Hyde Park. The mural is widely attributed to Banksy, although the artist has never officially confirmed authorship. The Marble Arch London organisation likewise describes it as an artwork believed to have been created by Banksy.

The inscription is a quotation from Raoul Vaneigem’s 1967 book The Revolution of Everyday Life. The combination of the child, newly planted seedling and Extinction Rebellion symbol places the work directly within the context of the climate protests taking place at Marble Arch in April 2019.
