Future Nostalgic

Description

Artist statement
"
This artwork is an abstract concept layered with textures inspired from the local area and local knowledge of Marrickville's history, this piece dances with time. Industrial 'grungey' and graffiti textures in the background give an urban feel, which gives a sense of grounding in present time and locality. The hand represents the idea of 'making contact' or 'being present' in the moment, underneath the hand are 'bauhaus' inspired water ripple effects - a historical nod to Marrickville's geographical area, formerly known as a swamp land.

The hand is my right hand, which is my painting hand, symbolising my 'first stamp' mural in Sydney, marking a full circle moment for myself spiritually as I was inspired from street art in the Inner West 20 years ago. 20 years from now, this will be a nostalgic memory, and Marrickville's local identity would have changed again.

In this way, the mural behaves as a portal paradox of playing with different timestamps and two completely different eras in Marrickville's history. What is now and what was, still is."
