Description

Painted during the 2026 Gadens Museum Festival, this mural by South African artist Elléna Lourens adds a serene and poetic presence to the streets of Esbjerg. Located on the gable at Kirkegade 23, at the entrance to Kosmorama Karreen, the work became a permanent addition to the city's growing collection of public art.

The project has an unusual beginning. Rather than being invited, Lourens contacted the festival herself after discovering its mission and international program. Inspired by the community-driven initiative, she expressed a strong desire to contribute a mural. With the support of Gadens Museum, Villemoes Holding, Esbjerg Municipality, and local partners, a suitable wall was quickly found, demonstrating how collaboration can transform an idea into a lasting artwork.

Based in Cape Town, Lourens is known for her murals, paintings, illustrations, and textile works. Her artistic language combines soft, muted colours with flowing organic forms, creating compositions that evoke calm, reflection, and a deep connection to nature. Her understated aesthetic complements both the architecture of Kosmorama Karreen and the surrounding urban environment.

The creation of the mural also fostered cultural exchange, as a young local artist assisted Lourens throughout the painting process, encouraging mentorship and the sharing of knowledge. The result is more than a mural—it is a testament to international collaboration and the power of public art to connect communities across borders.

Hunter

Tiny Tim
Started out hunting the streets in Antwerp, and completely bitten by the 'street art' virus. And the only cure is: HUNT SOME MORE. I love showing people all the amazing Belgian artists, run street art tours in my city and occasionally facilitate new mural projects. I love to travel and meet other hunters and artists. So hit me up when you're in town.
