Saint Peter

Description

Created for 'Tons de Primavera' festival in 2016

Basik explains the meaning of the mural as follows:

"St. Peter Holds the Book of Encryption" is a modern reinterpretation of St. Peter Enthroned, a painting by the Portuguese Renaissance master Grão Vasco, who was actually born in Viseu. This mural is the latest piece in my ongoing series on saints."

The figure makes a hand gesture resembling how the Chinese signify the number three, while holding a book displaying a randomly generated 128-bit WEP key password. Both elements serve as metaphors, reflecting on contemporary issues such as recent shifts in geopolitical and economic power, as well as how everyday life has been profoundly shaped by consumer technology.
