NEDERLANDS - Het Zennelab is een soort gemeenschapscentrum. Het is een plaats voor en door de bewoners van de wijk Broek. Een plek voor initiatief. In 2017 werd de grote tuin opgefleurd met enkele muurschilderingen. De zwart-witte muurschildering met de handen en voeten is van de hand van Sara Vermeylen (°1983), een Mechelse kunstenares. Sara Vermeylen heeft een Instagram-account waarop ze zich als volgt voorstelt: "Viel als baby in een ketel of houtskooldrank. Tekent op monolithisch papier. Eet wilde bessen en slaat Romeinen in elkaar". Deze omschrijving verwijst naar haar passie en werkwijze: tekenen op wit papier met houtskool. De essentie van de muurschildering (volgens Sara Vermeylen zelf): "Niets zo anoniem als handen en voeten. Tegelijkertijd verraden omgeplooide tenen, uitgestrekte vingers en een gebalde vuist meer emotie dan hun eigenaars ooit onder woorden zullen brengen. Dit zijn de onuitgesproken verhalen van iedereen die ooit langs die muur liep, iedereen die 't Broek van vroeger zijn/haar thuis mocht noemen, en de buurtbewoners van nu. Als je langs de muur wandelt, is er altijd wel een hand of een voet die heel dichtbij lijkt te komen, waardoor jouw pad op dat moment versmelt met de levensgeschiedenis van een wijk". ENGLISH - The Zennelab is a kind of community center. It is a place for and by the residents of the Broek district. A place for initiative. In 2017, the large garden was brightened up with a few murals. The black and white mural with the hands and feet is by Sara Vermeylen (°1983), a female artist from the neighbourhood of Mechelen. Sara Vermeylen has an Instagram account on which she introduces herself as follows: “Fell into a cauldron or charcoal potion as a baby. Draws on monolithic paper. Eats wild bores and beats up Romans”. This description refers to her passion and way of working: drawing on white paper with charcoal. She describes her works as: "Biased drawings of shallow breathing, muscular rigidity and involuntary behavior of the body". The essence of the mural (according to Sara Vermeylen herself): "Nothing is as anonymous as hands and feet. At the same time, folded toes, outstretched fingers and a clenched fist betray more emotion than their owners will ever put into words. These are the unspoken stories of everyone who once walked along that wall, everyone who was allowed to call 't Broek from the past his/her home, and the local residents of today.
