NÉMESIS

Description

NEMESIS

Mural sponsored by the Vícar City Council @vivevicar for the cultural program "30 Years of Trajectory - Urban Art as a Method of Transformation," and created within the 21st edition of the Vícar Hip Hop Street Festival 2026.

In Greek mythology, Nemesis is the goddess and divine personification of a strongly moral concept, understood as 'righteous indignation,' 'divine vengeance,' or 'retribution.' Nemesis is the executioner of the boastful, for she pursues them justly; no one escapes her warning, and she opposes all the arrogant, forcing them to learn their lesson through their own misfortunes. Nemesis watches over the affairs of the earth and is always present (that is, she tirelessly watches for unjust acts). The proverb "Nemesis walks at your feet" means that the goddess swiftly pursues evildoers.
She was also believed to measure the happiness and misfortune of mortals. She punished excess, even in the form of Fortune, as she could cause great losses when someone was overly favored.

Those blessed with frequent gifts of fortune will be visited by Nemesis, who will grant them loss and suffering so that they may become humble and understand that there are limits beyond which human happiness cannot safely proceed.

She was adorned with wings because of her swiftness, and a daffodil flower was placed upon her crown or diadem.
The apple branch symbolizes her power to dispense both punishment and reward, reminding mortals that fortune is fickle and that excessive pride or happiness will be balanced.
The wheel carried by Nemesis symbolizes destiny, representing how Fortune can change.
The sword symbolizes retributive justice and the fatal punishment that restores cosmic balance.
The image is framed within concentric circles, which provide focus and symmetry, using tags or calligraphy as decorative elements, with allusions to the Festival and the mural's history.
