Millo

Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu / although small, it is precious

Description

Located on the back of (the now closed) Event Cinemas, off Bounty Lane.

Created for the 2020 Street Prints Mauau Festival, Mt Maunganui

Milo stated that his work was inspired by the legend of the Mount itself, known as ‘Mauao’ which translates as ‘caught by the morning sun’, and by the will of the Maori community to underline the importance of their youth and the urgency of looking after the environment for them.

“The two characters represent the future generations taking care of the land, in this case the land is represented as an island that can be New Zealand but can also be our planet. It’s a kind of protection of what’s most important for us from the development. It always stands to attack what is important.”
