Seaweed

Located on a wall in the MacDonalds Drive Thru

Created for the 2020 Street Prints Mauao Festival

The theme for 2020 was “Ahakkoa he iti, he pounamu: Although is it small, it is precious."

“Seaweed may be small in our awareness and consciousness but it actually plays a massive roles in our lives and the ecosystem."

The message in this brightly coloured mural by Alex McLeod is plain and clear to see, seaweed is responsible for releasing more than 70% of atmospheric oxygen into the air that we breathe. Alongside this, with some species also play a role in the capture of carbon, it is a resource that we need to protect.
