We Run as One

This bright and colourful mural is a close-up painting of several larger-than-life teenagers competing in a running race.

It is painted across two walls joined at an angle of 140 degrees and is five metres wide and three metres high. The two walls make up a slice taken out of the corner of the Running Science building where its frontage and side wall meet. There is a grey tiled pavement in front of the mural and an over hanging roof projecting from the top.

The main figure is of 14-year-old Arran Keith. He is placed slightly left of centre with his bright red helmet touching the roof, his head thrown back with his eyes closed and mouth grinning with what could be elation or the effort of running. He wears a navy short sleeved T-shirt and dark shorts. His left arm is extended and the hand grips the handle of his frame runner. His right arm is bent at the elbow and the hand and forearm rest on a support on the frame.

His chest leans on a padded support that extends from the front of the frame. Around Arran are painted partial views of other competitors.

The bottom left corner is filled with the head and shoulder of a girl with long light-brown hair pulled back into a ponytail. She wears a pale blue round necked top. In the right-hand corner is the head and one shoulder of another girl with a blond ponytail and wearing a dark top.

In the background are the torsos and legs of five other runners all wearing shorts and shirts. The background is painted a solid vibrant blue which sets off the cropped figures of the young competitors and makes for an eye-catching and heart-warming example of disability inclusion in sports.
