Artificial Flowers

A lovely arrangement of orange chrysanthemums on a blue background, painted during the leadup to the Un[contained] Arts Festival. The artwork meshes as a decorative piece in an urban setting, infused with its natural environment theme.

Its solid blocks of colour and large, bold rendering of instantly-recognisable Australian native plants make it really pop above the grey concrete of the kerb. On a solid blue background it features veiny yellow leaves, large brown gumnuts, small golden buds like those of gum blossom, large orange blooms like huge pincushions with pale yellow petals unfurling from them, and bright aqua twigs interlaced with all the other elements. The plant life is rendered realistically in shape and form, but hugely magnified and using incongruous colours to cartoonish effect.
