I’m drawn to small, often overlooked plants I find on my travels. It’s always interesting to research the botanicals I collect, and I some times find these little blooms carry deep cultural histories. Some were used in folk medicine, some protected, and others now labeled invasive or poisonous. It reminds me about the curious things humans choose to value, how this changes over time, what gets preserved, and how nature and culture are always entangled. Species featured in this mural were photographed while in Eastern Germany, a mix of local plants like European Dewberry, Common Spotted Orchid, and Charlock Mustard, (and with one I slipped in from back home in Australia, the Veronica perfoliata.)
