De dorpslegende

Margaretha van Antiochië, of welbekend als Sint- Margriet. Haar vader minachtte haar om haar christelijk geloof. Margatha leefde op het land als herderin. Toen de stadsprofeet haar een huwelijksaanzoek deed, op voorwaarde dat ze haar geloof zou afzweren, weigerde ze. Daarop werd ze gevangen gezet en gemarteld. Hierop volgen nog een aantal wonderbaarlijke gebeurtenissen. De bekendste ervan is dat satan, in de gedaante van een draak, haar opslokte. Margaretha ontsnapte levend doordat de draak haar uitspuwde, dit vanwege het kruis dat ze droeg wat zijn ingewanden irriteerde.

In dit werk wou Nigel de eeuwenoude dorpslegende terug tot leven brengen.

The Village Legend

Margaret of Antioch, also known as Saint Margaret. Her father despised her for her Christian faith. Margaret lived in the countryside as a shepherdess. When the city prophet proposed marriage, on the condition that she renounce her faith, she refused. She was subsequently imprisoned and tortured. Several miraculous events followed. The most famous of these was when Satan, in the guise of a dragon, swallowed her. Margaret escaped alive because the dragon vomited her out, irritating his bowels by the cross she was wearing.

In this work, Nigel wanted to revive the age-old village legend.
