Ikan Todak

The title in the Malay language translates to Swordfish.

Most Singaporeans would be familiar with the story of boy hero Hang Nadim’s demise at the top of Redhill following his idea of using banana stems to combat the swordfish attacking villagers on our shores. According to Singapore Malay folklore (Sejarah Melayu), Tanjong Pagar ('Fenced Headland') was the actual location of said swordfish battle. This mural artwork pays homage to this fabled story by visualising the narrative of the iconic battle between man, swordfish and banana stems, at the exact location where it took place. - the coasts of Tanjong Pagar.
