Peonies and Patterns

The artwork pays homage to the history and culture of Katong/Joo Chiat through elements to the Peranakan culture such as the Nyonya kebaya, beaded slippers and Peranakan motif tiles.

This contemporary art piece was produced in collaboration with iQiyi Original drama, The Ferryman: Legends of Nanyang, that draws inspiration from Southeast Asian folklore. This work showcases the vibrant Peranakan culture in Katong/Joo Chiat as well as the mystical elements of the show. Featured in the design are the drama's protagonists, Xia Dong Qing (starred by Lawrence Wong) and Zhao Li (starred by Qi Yuwu), as well as a Peranakan lady spirit inspired from the show.
