Jet Martinez painted over the colorful floral mural in early 2019 as a response to feeling of loss and of a bleak future in the current sociopolitical climate.
From the artist's Instagram post: "Taking the color out. How to talk about loss? What are the words in my language to talk about the constant feeling of dread of loss of nature. The feeling of loss and remembering how vibrant things used to be not so long ago. Knowing we are in the middle of major change and loss. Bleached coral. Carved out mountains. Plastic, fucking everywhere... What are the words?"
