(From @fnnch's Instagram caption) — The bears were inspired by things children want to be when they grow up, like firefighters, artists and astronauts. There are several layers of meaning here, not all of which I will describe. One is a nod to the main tenant of the building Clever, which is an education startup. Education is a path for children to achieve their dreams. I am incredibly thankful for the education I received, the emphasis that my parents placed upon it, and the sacrifices they made to make it possible. There is no way I could be a professional artist without that education. The mural is also intended to support children and their dreams regardless of their origin and background. There is an incredible amount of nativism in this country and, to a shocking degree, in this city. Not everyone had the good fortune to be born in San Francisco, and not everyone had the good fortune to be born in America. While this city and country have many problems, we can at the very least support the future of our country by supporting our children.
