'Chavez, who is now based in San Antonio and considers himself a sort of pop surrealist, is a painter, but also creates his own customized toys. His first line of action figures, “Nuke Beach,” was based on an original story about a group of surfers who are mutated by the Fukushima nuclear disaster that took place in Japan in 2011. His second, “Massimo Man,” was based on another original narrative about a hero who has an arm cannon powered by the energy of Hulkamania.' - 2021 interview by Kiko Martinez for @remezcla https://remezcla.com/culture/san-antonio-artist-makes-customized-toys-based-latino-cult-classic-blood-blood/

'Any pivotal artistic moment/influence? Yea when I discovered the Chicago pop art collective called “The Hairy Who”. These guys did some great surrealist pop art that kinda validated the craziness that i had been painting at the time, and these dudes were big in the 60’s and 70’s."' - 2015 interview by @artwhorecult https://artwhorecult.com/art-talk-louie-chavez-of-nuke-beach/
