Klaas Vaak

Klaas Vaak is the Dutch name for the Sandman. In the fairy tale of the Sandman, he sprinkles sand in the children's eyes when they go to bed, so they will have sweet dreams. With this piece James hopes to inspire the underprivileged kids and youth of the Feijenoord area, which is one of the poorest neighborhoods in the country, to keep dreaming and not give up hope. He deliberately left the stream of sand hanging in the air, so the kids can go and stand under it and receive a sprinkling of dreams.

The piece was made using hand-cut stencils and spray paint, the signature techniques for Scotsman James Klinge.
