Sleeping Giats part 2

As part of the Rotterdam Roof Days (31 May - 2 June), the French artist duo Ella & Pitr painted two roofs on Rotterdam South. According to the organization, the "Sleeping Giants", which are now permanently on the Maassilo and Swimming Center Rotterdam, represent the talent and potential of residents from the surrounding neighborhoods, which is not always visible in the city.

The two works of art, which can only be seen from an airplane above the city, are part of a "family" of some 60 giants, which can be found on rooftops all over the world. Artists Ella & Pitr painted the Rotterdam giants together with young people from Rotterdam last weekend. They used sustainable eco-paint in which the white color has the additional advantage that the buildings are better protected against heat stress.
A young man with angelic wings sleeps on the roof of the swimming pool. They are sandwiched like fetuses within the angular contours of the roof. "Maybe they are brother and sister," says Pitr with a speckled face after a day of spraying paint. "They represent the young people in this district, who have to fight to spread their wings."
