Eng.: Since October 2022, when the residents of the Kardinal Galen Ring senior centre lift their eyes from their well-tended gardens, they are no longer looking at around 500 square metres of grey plaster - the windowless rear of the Böckmann fashion store - but at the ‘island’. The Sourati duo - Mehrdad Zaeri and Christina Laube - held several workshops with the residents to explore their stories, thoughts and dreams and realised that the ‘island’ is exactly what this huge wall and its viewers need. Monochrome, rich in detail and full of love, the artist couple from Mannheim have created a place of longing, a resting place, a home for wishes and memories in their unmistakable graphic style.

Deu.: Wenn die Bewohner:innen des Seniorenzentrums Kardinal Galen Ring den Blick von ihrer gepflegten Gartenanlage heben, schauen sie seit Oktober 2022 nicht mehr auf ca. 500 qm grauen Putz - die fensterlose Rückseite des Modehauses Böckmann – sondern auf die „Insel“. Das Duo Sourati – Mehrdad Zaeri und Christina Laube – haben in mehreren Workshops mit den Bewohner:innnen deren Geschichten, Gedanken und Träume erforscht und erkannt, dass die „Insel“ genau das ist, was diese riesige Wand und ihre Betrachter:innen brauchen. Monochrom, detailreich und liebevoll hat das Künstlerpaar aus Mannheim in seinem unverwechselbaren zeichnerischen Stil hier einen Sehnsuchtsort, einen Ruhepunkt, ein Zuhause für Wünsche und Erinnerungen geschaffen.
