Portal Seats of Memory

This address is the closest physical building to the piece, but the sculpture actually fronts on Sunrise Valley Drive at 38°56'53.3"N 77°20'59.8"W. Portal Seats of Time is five cast concrete stools. Four of the seats have the footprint of the building that used to be here, the American Press Institute, that had been designed by Marcel Breuer. The shape of the stools mirror Breuer's use of trapezoids for windows.
