Le sourire Rémois

It is a representation of the smiling angel which is an emblematic statue of Reims Cathedral and a strong symbol of the city, a monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is represented with different historical and cultural symbols of the city and the region, such as the fleur-de-lys and the laurel because in the Middle Ages the kings of France came to be crowned in the cathedral of Reims, the grapes and the bubbles of champagne because Reims is the capital of the champagne region where all the world's champagne is produced, and also the emblematic blue tit bird of northern France which represents the natural heritage of the region. This fresco comes in place of an old fresco dating from 1988 on the same theme destroyed following insulation work on the building. The new work was financed by the city of Reims.
