Hazul

Description

Hazul (1981), a self-taught artist, has Porto as his birthplace and the old streets as the backdrop for his artistic growth. His first interventions in public spaces took place in 1997 under the pseudonym Pong 02, when he discovered the hip-hop movement and, more specifically, graffiti. For years, his focus was mainly on drawing letters, but over time he began to explore other avenues. From 2008, after consolidating a language and setting an objective course for his work, he adopted the current name Hazul. Today, creations appear with a more symbolic and dreamlike dimension, discussing the relationship between the organic and the geometric, between beings and objects, or between the material and the ethereal. Strong lines make the design stand out on orderly and sometimes floating surfaces. There are influences from primitive art, ancient civilisations and indigenous peoples, resulting in a universal and timeless language and expression. The street still plays the leading role in his work, maintaining a constant dialogue between the contemporary and ancestral worlds. Outside the walls, Hazul also uses canvas, paper and found objects as a means of expressing himself. Various events and exhibitions are also part of his curriculum.

Country Manager Netherlands 🇳🇱 Hunting the streets for Street Art Cities since May 2021 in my hometown Tilburg (and on a regular basis surrounding areas) Also trying to update artworks wherever my travels take me. I have no graffiti background but started photographing some street art at the end of 2017 in the city of Porto (PT) and that is where my love for this artform started.
