The project was created with the financial support of the Czech Centre Sofia & the Honorary Consulate in Plovdiv.🇨🇿
Last autumn I spent few weeks in Plovdiv, where I was invited to execute a large-format painting, a so-called Mural within the project of the Czech Center "Street Meets (Mural) Art". The overarching theme of all the paintings created across the participating Czech centers is Neighbourhood-Community-Reciprocity.
Josef Schnitter the Architect Tribute The mural was painted on the 170th anniversary of the birth of the important Czech architect Josef Schnitter, a Czech architect who had a significant impact on the architectural and urban development of the city at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The composition shows both him and one of his most emblematic buildings – the bell tower of a catholic church named Sveta Petka from the beginning of 20th century. The background is formed by a semi-abstract letter based pattern / his stylized name in cyrillics/ fluently passing into an urban city plan designed also by Schnitter.
The painting is located in central area of the city right on the Josef Schnitter street and nearby the statue of Josef Schnitter.
The project was carried out on the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2022.
