This traffic signal cabinet mural is part of an effort to increase public art in Gilbert's Downtown Heritage District.
Local artist Kelsey Phillips was selected to complete the project by a committee comprised of Town of Gilbert staff, members of the Redevelopment Commission and Heritage District merchants.
Kelsey's inspiration for the concept: "In this mural, I combine Gilbert’s past as a railroad town along the Arizona Eastern Railway, various species of native birds, and whimsical clouds and smoke to commemorate the past, present, and future of the Town. Wildlife is a fundamental part of living in the Sonoran Desert and all of the bird species depicted can be found at the local Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, a bird watching destination."
