Metamorphosis

Done in 201 - this mural was created with community collaboration from the Ridge Homeless Shelter Residents in the city to bring awareness to the homeless and fight to end it. The metal butterflies were created by the men in the shelter to symbolize happiness and the dreams that people have. The man depicted standing tall represents a self realized individual lifting his hands to the sky with fire and water in his hands. The hands reaching out is for the caring staff at the shelter. The artist noted - "that was the most difficult mural I've done, dealing with the most raw and basic elements of human existence. I was there as a white guy. Most of them are black. I was there to earn trust and trust is a very expensive commodity. I think I learned as much as they learned."
