According to the artist, it’s a portrait of a « woman with braided hair wailing the thread of the past, carrying the history of those who learned to grow up in the dark. »
This second portrait made in Spot 13 is in continuity with the first one and dig on the theme of female power in an interpretation of magical realism. The female figure imposes itself as a pagan deity and seems to challenge the spectator with confidence. An aura emerges from the main character. The pattern of the braid recalls the union of different forces but also the traditions of handcraft weaving as well as the idea of weaving the threads of one’s own future. The background motifs and flowers are inspired by handmade fabrics and question the character’s connection to her traditions and roots, while sublimating them.
As an allegory of resilience, this phoenix woman seems to have overcome her own obstacles by sacred fire. A fertile ground then sees grow a golden and dreamlike vegetation.
This portrait give shape to feminist struggles and to show the women’s ability to sublimate their fights. The woman challenges the spectators with her look, inviting them to question themselves and their acts in a patriarchal society.
