“Maria” is a mural located in Pinhal Novo that celebrates local traditions, notably the so-called “caramelas” traditions, a cultural expression of the community in the region.
With the production of FOME, it is a tribute to our roots, popular festivals, and the traditions that mark the calendar of the people in the area.
“Maria” is a Portuguese woman who symbolizes the strength, identity, and cultural heritage of the people. At the same time, the swallows symbolize freedom, the arrival of spring and summer, as well as the popular festivities that fill our communities with joy and color during this time of year.
The figure of the woman in the mural also carries its own meaning, referring to the central role of women in traditions, rituals, and the preservation of culture.
It is a tribute to feminism, female strength, and women’s active role in transmitting traditions from generation to generation.
