Di rose rosse e d'amor fendente (Red roses and slashing love)
Daniela Balsamo’s new artwork is an exploration of the complex and dramatic issue of domestic violence.
The mural, commissioned by the University of Palermo (Italy), focuses on the ways violence is often hidden behind apparent gestures of love. A man gifts a rose to a beautiful lady, luring her with his courteous and kind manners, while holding his dagger and getting ready to strike. In the meantime the sheep stands as a symbol of the naivety of all those people that condone and justify violence in the name of love.
