Atlaswerke III

The book Subway Art by Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant is one of the most important publications in the graffiti scene. When the book came to Europe in the 1980s, millions of young people were infected with graffiti. The photo book primarily shows images of painted subways in New York in the 1970s. Since then, the painting of rolling steel has been one of the highest goals in the graffiti scene and continues to exert a great fascination on those involved to this day. Björn von Schulz picks up on this theme in his motifs on the left and right. The train is also a recurring element in his illustrations.

Together with the collective betont.es (left) and Top Notch (centre), the team initially agreed on a joint colour concept. By focusing on the colours petrol, purple and salmon red, the three individual works create an impressive effect. Betont.es is a collective focussing on purely graphic forms and patterns in its wall designs. The transitions to the styles of The Top Notch (centre) are almost fluid. Although his lettering is influenced by classic graffiti from the 1980s, it sometimes takes on very graphic or abstract forms.
