Wildflowers of Paderborn

Australia is the driest and hottest continent on our planet. These climatic conditions cause sometimes devastating wildfires every year. In the summer of 2019/2020, the worst fires in Australia's history took place. The artist Man.De was living in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney at the time.

After the fire, there was major flooding and everything began to bloom again. The flora and fauna in Australia is perfectly adapted to the tough conditions. For example, certain seed capsules only open in the heat of the fire. The burnt earth can also have a fertilising effect to a certain extent.

These experiences had a key influence on Man.De's art. From then on, she wanted to learn more about the characteristics of wildflowers. Today she shares her knowledge through her works. For the wall in Schloss-Neuhaus, Man.De studied the wildflowers in Paderborn and arranged them into an oversized bouquet. This local reference to her works is also very important to Man.De in general. This attitude pays off in the end. While working on the Steiger, the residents of the tower block handed the artist food and drinks through the windows every day, floor by floor.
