Project: The Crystal Ship 2023 

De carrière van Joëlle Dubois heeft zo’n hoge vlucht genomen dat het een wonder mag heten dat ze de tijd nam om voor The Crystal Ship in opleiding te gaan bij street artist Han Coussement. Want Dubois, die bonte observaties maakt van een maatschappij geobsedeerd door sociale media, seksualiteit en body negativity, heeft zelf geen achtergrond in street art. Haar even komiek als confronterend werk smeekt echter om een steeds groter canvas. En wat dit portret van een Vogue danseres nog bijzonderder maakt, is dat het ooit als doek werd gestolen uit een tentoonstelling. Nu hangt het lekker veilig.

Joëlle Dubois’ career has taken off to such an extent that it’s a minor miracle she took the time to train with street artist Han Coussement for The Crystal Ship. For Dubois, who makes colourful observations of a society obsessed with social media, sexuality and body negativity, has no background as a street artist herself. But her work, as witty as it is confrontational, begs for an ever-larger canvas. And what makes this portrait of a Vogue dancer even more special is that it was once stolen as a canvas from an exhibition. This time around, it ‘hangs’ nice and safe.
