Buddy Bolden the father of jazz, the King!
The mural re-creates the only surviving photo of Bolden and his band, with the legendary musician highlighted with a halo that's intentionally distorted to represent his struggles with mental illness. The work includes a brief description of Bolden's contribution and words and symbols intended to convey his genius and impact.
The mural, which is on the wall of the Little Gem Saloon, is part of the Tourism and Marketing Corporation's "One time in New Orleans," Campaign, conceived to mark the city's tricentennial celebration.
