In 2014 a fire ripped through the former Il Globo warehouse in Fitzroy North, where several people were evacuated from the former headquarters of the major Italian language newspaper. Thirteen fire trucks attended.
The warehouse was in the process of being converted to townhouses, and now - commissioned by the owners of those townhouses - this mural honours the building's past, as well as allowing me to explore a theme that I've been wanting to do more of in my public work, adding the element of fire.
Burning eucalyptus, an Australian flame robin, an Italian long tailed tit and foliage - the artists little homage to this chapter of Nicholson St.
