William Barak (1823 – 1903) was "last chief of the Yarra Yarra tribe", the last traditional elder of the Wurundjeri clan, the pre-colonial inhabitants of present-day Melbourne. He became an influential spokesman for Aboriginal social justice and an important informant on Wurundjeri cultural lore.
This 85-meter apartment building was officially launched in March 2015.
The likeness of William Barak is forged into the building by modulating the shape of the white balconies against the darker colour of the windows.
The building was built by Grocon Constructions, designed by ARM Architects. The architects used a portrait study in clay by sculptor Peter Schipperheyn as the basis for their design.
